Hello!
I’m Ted Kessler, an up-and-coming UX/UI/Product Designer with programming experience and a background in healthcare technology from the Bay Area, CA. I just finished a UX/UI Design certificate program and then moved from Austin, TX to Vancouver, WA. I found this Service Designer position with Headspace Health and I’m excited about it because I’m passionate about mental healthcare and I’m looking to make a big difference for the better in this realm!
Regarding the first point in the job description about 1-5 years of UX design experience, I want to be clear that I don’t yet have this experience, but am very actively trying to get there. I believe that my web and graphic design experience over the years, combined with my recent UX/UI design certificate and 5.5 years of healthcare technology experience, makes me a viable candidate who could quickly learn the ropes and start contributing valuable insights and deliverables to help Headspace Health grow and thrive.
Here is how I specifically align with your other posted qualifications (taken from the job description):
- Success leading generative design research, synthesis, and ideation
- Have documented services through service blueprints, customer journey maps, and diagrams and clearly outlined areas for design interventions (not all of these specifically, but did similar work in a Lean methodologies course with my previous employer, as well as generated similar UX assets in my UX/UI course)
- Excellent collaboration skills to co-create solutions with interdisciplinary teams
- Strong relationship-building skills to socialize ideas within the organization and manage external partnerships
- Strong sense-making skills to find meaning in data
- Clear focus on bringing principles of diversity equity inclusion and belonging (DEIB) into the design and research process
- Experience in healthcare, education, civic/government and/or behavior change is a plus
- Hands on UX experience in Figma and/or related programs a plus
Below is a link to my most relevant UX/UI design project: Psychfinder, an app that helps patients find mental healthcare providers. I chose the topic of mental health for this project based on my empathy for a friend’s difficulty in booking a mental healthcare appointment, combined with my interest in healthcare.
Underneath that are links to the other UX/UI design projects I’ve done during my UX certificate course.
I also have some smaller projects posted on Dribbble.
